Just imagine the possibilities, Muskegon...
The beginning of a community dream ... A new downtown Muskegon. |
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but
I'm not the only one..." –“Imagine,” John Lennon
Welcome to Imagining Muskegon.
Back in 2003, signs started sprouting up around the Port City: "Imagine
A New Downtown," they blared amid the rubble of the Muskegon Mall.
"Imagine Muskegon," they implored from overgrown lots and desolate
landscapes. For years, those signs stood alone, rotting in the debris of the
past, making us wonder, "Is anybody really imagining anything here?” Then,
slowly but surely, a new downtown started taking shape. New buildings sprouted
as old ones underwent refurbishment. Streets were repaved, sculptures added…
And transformation didn’t stop then or there. The last couple of years have
seen the addition of a bike path ringing Muskegon Lake, a nature area extending
into the wetlands of North Muskegon, and several new businesses downtown and
beyond, to name just a handful of new offerings. There’s still a long way to
go, but the Muskegon area has come very far in just the last decade. We all
just need to imagine the possibilities … both existing and to come … and to
realize what great abundance is already here.
This site will provide ideas and examples of things to do, see, and explore in the Muskegon area, as well as thoughts, insights, and new ways of looking at the region's offerings. Feel free to leave thoughts, suggestions, and ideas. Just remember to use your imagination :)
